Five steps to speaking up

Your voice matters

Your thoughts (18)

Ever felt like you weren’t being heard?

Maybe your bestie didn’t agree with your plans. Or your parents thought you should be a doctor instead of an actor. All this made you feel a little bit frustrated, right?

Truth is, it’s important to speak up, to make sure you’re being heard. If you’re not sure how to go about it, these tips will help:

Trust Your Gut
Always listen to that little voice in your head. If something someone has said or done doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right.

Be Confident But Respectful
When speaking up, use a calm and clear voice. If you feel frustrated, walk away for a while. This’ll help you focus well and think about what to say

Listen to the Other Person
The other person may have a different opinion, but they still have the right to be heard. Listening to them will help you understand the different ways people think and feel. We won’t always agree on everything, and that’s okay.

Make it Personal
Use ‘I’ at the beginning of your sentence. For example, say “I feel it wasn’t nice of you to speak to me like that” instead of “What’s wrong with you? Don't ever speak to me like that.” People respond better when they don’t feel attacked.

Make Your Point
Share your thoughts and opinions in your normal speaking voice. For example, if your bestie wants to play Ludo while you want to play Whot!, just talk to them in an honest, respectful way.

Friend its something you dont rush, you have to give yourself the time. Most times it got to do with your age or your stature. Thats why you see some people they be at age 18 and still look like a girl of 13. Be patience with yourself dear

thank you for letting me understand

thank you for letting me understand

Hey Kenzie! Thanks for the comment. We are glad that you like the articles we share on Springster. We really appreciate the kind words. The truth is that you are growing but because you want to see certain changes in your body, you do not believe that you are growing. Please, do not compare yourself to others because it will only make you feel bad. Your period will come but do not be in a hurry because it is natural with females to get their periods okay? The size of your breast is hormonal. If you are not naturally meant to have big breasts, you cannot force it to happen. Look at your family members and see if there is a trend of having big breasts or small breast to know if you may have too. But note that having breast is not a sign that you are growing. We hope this helps

Hey Willings! Thanks for the comment. So sorry about what you went through. Please note that the bank owes you the details of the person that tampered with your account and this includes name, location of withdrawal and also time. They need to provide this information. It is your money and it is your right to know this. Who exactly were you getting a lawyer for? The bank or the fraudster? Please clarify this. Ask for this information so that you can also be able to track it, withdraw the money left and then to block the account. We hope this helps

Hey ifeoluwa! Thanks for the comment. Some people are naturally late bloomers (they tend to see their periods late and their organs also develop late). However, we do not think 15 is such a bad time and it is not too late either but we understand why you are worried because we are sure that most of your friends may have started theirs. We advise that you talk to a trusted adult. We hope this helps
