Time to take charge
When my parents died, I thought my life was over. I was an only child, and they were my everything. I was all alone with no guidance or support – especially when it came to making decisions.
Then my aunty and uncle took me in. They cared for me like I was their child. I appreciated their kindness, but I felt bad about depending on them for everything. It made me feel so guilty, especially as they also had their own children to look after. I didn’t want to be a burden to them.
One afternoon, my friend Agianpe came to visit. We gisted for a while, then I braided her hair in the backyard. I’d always loved braiding hair and trying out different hairstyles.
When Agianpe left, my aunty suggested I should start making money from my hobby. I was a little surprised. I had no idea she’d noticed my passion. Turned out she understood how I felt and wanted to help.
Before then, I’d never imagined I could make money from doing something I love. I couldn’t wait to get started.
My aunty was very helpful. She gave me an airy space in the house to do the hair braiding. She even let me practice with my little cousins’ hair. When our neighbours admired their lovely hairdos, my aunty announced that I made them. My head was swelling ehn.
Like play like play, I started getting customers. As time went on, they began to increase. Soon my weekends were fully booked. Before I knew it, I was the one of the most popular hair braiders in our community.
Ever since my business took off, I’ve become more confident. I don’t worry about the future anymore – all because I have my own money. I wish my parents could see me now.
They’d be super proud.

How I make Garri ice cream : You start with the normals, garri, sugar, milk and water but make it really thick to the point you can roll it. Then roll your balls and put it in the freezer, let it get really cold but it shouldn't become icy then add condensed milk on top. Your very own Garri ice cream. NOTE: Do this at least once a week cause too much of starch is not good and also too much Garri causes eye problem. It is unhealthy but a Nigerian got to do what she got to do .

Big sister, i've got a big problem. I did science in school and I was so good in it. I proceeded to do medicine in the university. But before then, in my third year at high school i.e., SS3, I discovered lately that I had the talent of writing stories and how good I was in Arts,mostly essays and grammar comprehension and construction. And by then, I'd already enrolled for science subjects in WAEC. Now,big sister, I wish I could turn back the hands of the clock. I've sitten twice for exams conducted by the university of my choice to study medicine and I've not made good scores in any. I'm discouraged and I feel like a failure although I know i'm intelligent. Help me out please. What do u suggest? I know its too late now to go back to the arts.

Hey Diamond! Thanks for the comment. That's great to hear. We love that you write and you have a group where you inspire people. It almost sounds like another Springster! You can make money from this by asking your group members to pay for some of the training/teachings that you do. What you can do is to give an interesting summary on what it is that you will be teaching and then ask them to pay a token to learn. You can also try selling your stories to blogs or newspapers. Blogging is another way to make money. When you get a high traffic of people on your blog, you eventually get paid. We hope this helps and we wish you all the best.

For makeup, you can learn makeup online and get paid to do people's make up. You can make money through singing by joining a music group or singing at events in your local community.
