Am I too young to help?

Not at all…

Your thoughts (6)

Has someone ever said “you are too young for this”? Or maybe you feel too young to make an impact. Well, that is not true. Anyone can make an impact. Young or old. This is why we want to dispel some myths about being too young to help.

MYTH: No one will listen to a young girl from a small community.

TRUTH: Not true. Young or old, if you have something valuable to say people will listen. A good example is Malala. She grew up in a community where girls were not usually encouraged to share their opinions. Today, world leaders listen when she speaks.

MYTH: Only older people are smart enough to make a change.

TRUTH: There is the popular belief that says “old means wise.” That is not always true. The truth is there are young people making a lot of impact. Take Zuriel Oduwole for instance. She is a 17-year old education advocate. She educates older people and even world leaders on the importance of education. You are not too young to have your opinion heard or to make a difference.

MYTH: I need to be qualified or certified before I can help.

TRUTH: There are things you can do without a qualification. For example, you do not need a qualification to become a volunteer who teaches girls how to read.

To make a change what you need is passion. If you think you have ways to help girls in your community get educated or learn new things, go ahead and do something about it. Do not let age hold you back. Believe in yourself.

Being young, it does't meant that you are not capable of impacting something valuable, since you have the zeal and you know is valuable, then you can.
