Do you feel like you do not have control in your life? Do you feel like you’re stuck? Are there things on your mind you can’t speak out about? Are there things you want to do, but don’t know how to start? Do you feel like you don’t have the power to change anything?
Well, you can change things. And you can start by doing something that seems small. Stop saying ‘I can’t’.
When you say ‘I can’t’ it usually means:
- I don’t want to
- I don’t know how to (meaning you need help)
- I don’t believe I can.
By using one of these instead of ‘I can’t’, you can start to understand the real problem and see how to get to the answer. For example, if instead of saying , ‘I can’t do this work on my own,” Aisha says ‘I don’t know how to do this work,’ then she knows to solve her problem by asking for help.
You see, once you replace I can’t with the real meaning, then you can do something about it
- If it’s ‘I don’t want to…,’ that’s fine, because it should be your choice
- If it’s ‘I don’t know how to…,’ then you find a way to learn how to do the thing yourself or ask for help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. There are some problems that we cannot solve alone. In this case, it’s important to find a trusted person to talk to.
- If it’s ‘I don’t believe I can…,’ then you have to remind yourself about all the things that you CAN do and start believing in yourself.
Confidence in yourself doesn’t happen overnight but it can start with one a small thing. Stop using the words ‘I can’t’. You will begin to feel more powerful and ready to make your goals happen
