Learning to save your money
I was walking home from school one afternoon and saw this lovely gown in a shop across the road. After looking at the dress for about 5 minutes, I decided to walk in and ask for the price. “N2,000”, the shop attendant shouted. She looked at me like “How can you afford this dress?” But after a month, I went back to the shop and bought the dress. You want to know how I did it? Let me gist you.
The first thing I did was to write down all the ways I could make money.
After writing all that down, I wrote down ways that would help me to save the N2,000. These are the things I did
Set a time frame
I gave myself 1 month to save the money and I wrote it in my diary
Find a safe place
I built a kolo where I kept the money.
Keep track
I wrote every kobo I made in my diary (I saved N400 from my monthly pocket money. I made N1400 from volunteering to wash clothes and clean the houses of neighbours.. I made N500 from selling my old books and clothes).
Stick to the budget
I removed the N2000 for the dress and left the remaining N300 in my kolo as savings for the future.

Hey Chika! We understand that saving money can be difficult sometimes. The trick to saving is to save towards something (a new dress, phone, a gift for a friend etc). This way, you are not so tempted to spend the money you get. You can also make a piggy bank to save money. With this, you will not be able to get the money out until you break it. You can tell a carpenter to make it or you can buy one. If you have trust worthy friends, you can all start saving together and anyone that breaks the chain will be fined a particular amount. Thanks for your advice but what if i want to use the money for the books how do i take it out from wine bottle? And for your question i suggest you list out all the things you need and keep the money in a place you know you don't often go to if possible give the money to a trusted person to keep it for you that way you will save more i hope it helps

Stephanie I think you should use a bottle (a wine bottle) because you will not be able to take the money out.
Hey Stephanie! Pretty_val_32's idea is not bad. You can try that out and see if it works for you. You can also put some money aside for snacks since you really like to buy some. Maybe a little amount every week for buying snacks so that you don't get to spend the money you are saving for the books and your friend's gift. That sounds good right? We hope this helps.
