When I was 11, I found blood on my panties. I was confused. I didn’t know where it came from or what was happening to me.
Some girls in my youth group said I had started my period. I asked them what it meant, but they didn’t know anything else. I had so many questions and no one to talk to.
Then I read this story on Springster about a girl who told her dad about her period. I loved it so much that it gave me the courage to ask my own dad about periods. At first, he didn’t want to talk. He thought I was way too young. But when I told him I’d already started my period, he was happy to go ahead.
He shared all the details with me. Girls have tons of eggs, two fallopian tubes and one uterus. When a girl starts puberty, an egg leaves one of the ovaries to the uterus. The uterus builds up its lining with extra blood and tissue, making its walls thick and cushioned. This prepares the uterus for pregnancy.
If the egg is fertilized by a sperm, it forms a baby. If the egg isn't fertilized, the uterus sheds the extra blood and tissue. Then they come out through the vagina. This process is our menstrual period. The cycle occurs every month – except a woman is pregnant. Or for other reasons like a change in diet and stress.
Months later, we discussed periods in class. The boys wanted to know more, so I told them everything. Some girls were shy, but I told them not to be ashamed or embarrassed to talk about periods. And neither should you. Periods are totally normal and a sign that we’re growing up.

In calculating your period/menstrual circle, note that the first day of your period is also the first day of your menstrual circle and the last day of your period is not the last day of your circle but the last day of your period. The duration/flow depends on the individual. The last day of your cycle is the day before your next period starts. For example, if your period started on the 1st of April and your next period starts on the 3rd of May, your cycle will be 2nd of May. This means that your cycle lasts for 31 days. Your new cycle starts again from the 1st day of your next period. Please note that your period can be delayed at sometimes and can also come earlier than normal. We hope this helps.

Hey Boofre! Thanks for the comment. Yes, it is normal. Periods last between 2 - 7 days normally., it could even be more. The 8th day is usually when you spot (see drops/spots of blood). Do not be worried okay? We hope this helps
