Know what’s up with your body

Sometimes we need answers, but don’t know who to ask.

Sometimes we know who to ask, but don’t know how to ask.

To help out, Dr. Blen would be answering some of your most asked questions.

My period is not regular; it always comes unexpected and ends up embarrassing me. Please help
For some of us our period can be irregular especially when we first start having our period. It’s perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
Irregular periods can also be caused by stress, weight problems, extreme dieting or too much exercise.
If your period is always catching you by surprise, it might be because you are not keeping track.
Get yourself a calendar (on your phone or at home). Write down the first day you saw your period. Then write down the first day of your next period. Do this for 3 months. If your period is regular, you will have pretty much the same number of days between one period and the next. This way you have an idea of when the next one will come. Everyone is different, but for most girls it is usually 28 and 35 days between

I always see a colored substance on my pant and it is not blood. I am scared. Am I sick or something?
It’s called vaginal discharge and it’s something we all get. It’s how our bodies flush out bacteria and dead cells from our vagina.
The colour and smell changes depending on lots of things. If your period is about to start, for example. The only time you need to worry is if it is green or yellow in or has a bad odor. This means you might have an infection. You should see a doctor immediately.

What causes pimples and what food should I eat to avoid getting pimples?
A lot of things can cause pimples. Stress, hormones (which can be connected to periods), dirty pillow cases/bed sheets even touching your face often.
Sometimes, eating fatty/oily foods can also cause pimples.
To avoid getting pimples

  • Wash your face at least twice a day. Wash off make-up before going to bed
  • Eat healthy. More fruits and vegetables, less junk
  • Wash your bed sheets and pillow case regularly
  • Drink lots of water
  • Try to keep your hands away from your face

Am I still a virgin? I fingered myself but blood didn't come out.
Technically, a virgin is a person who has never had sexual intercourse. So if you haven’t, then you are a virgin.
Now about the blood.
Fact is, not all girls bleed the first time they have sex.
The bleeding happens when the hymen is stretched or torn. What’s a hymen? It’s a thin covering around the opening of the vagina. It does not cover it completely.
Because it is so thin, the hymen can stretch or tear from normal activities like riding a bike. So some virgins have no hymen.
Being a virgin has nothing to do with blood.

How do I get rid of body odor?
Body odor is mostly caused by sweating or bad bathing habits . To get rid of body odor Bath regularly Rub a deodorant or powder under your armpits Wear clean clothes Wash your clothes regularly. Make sure you let them dry well Add a little lemon juice to your bathing water
