How I dealt with my growth fears
I hate it any time my teacher says, “Line up according to your height.” I am the shortest in my class. I always have to stay in front. I am 15, but my classmates say I look 10. My friend Ola started wearing a bra when she was 13. I only wear a singlet under my uniform. My breast is not growing.
One day I told my mummy I think something is wrong with me. I asked her to take me to the doctor because I am not growing like a normal person. She took me to Mrs. Eze, my Guidance Counselor in school. At first, I was angry. But after we finished talking, I was happy. She explained everything very well to me.
Mrs. Eze explained all about puberty. It’s the time that your body is maturing into a woman. There are different signs. The girl will start growing taller, hair will come out under her armpit, pimples can start coming out, her hips will become bigger, her breasts will start growing and she will start menstruating.
Some girls start as early as 7, but some don’t start until age 13. Some people even when they become 15 or 16, they don’t have any of these things. It does not mean something is wrong. Every girl is different. They will grow too, but their own might just be slower than their friends.
Here are some things that can affect how we grow:
If by 18, you still have not seen your period or other signs of puberty, you should go and see a doctor. Just to check if you have any problem.

While some have hips because it is part of the genetic makeup, others may not have hips because it is not in their genes. Hey Tizzy! Height is hormonal. It could be that this is how it is meant to be. The fact that you are older than her does not mean that you should be taller than her. You may still grow taller than her but that may be later because you are still growing. Right now, there is really nothing than can be done about this. Hey Derinsola! Breasts are not equal. It is not just you, it happens to all of us. The growth of the breast is hormonal and is unique for everyone. You should not compare yourself and your growth to another person. You both are different. Your breast will grow but at it's own time so also your height. Your breasts are definitely growing but not fast as you may want it and your period has nothing to do with the growth of your breast. Your height and the size of your breast is hormonal. The best you can do for yourself is to love your body girl. The size of your breast is hormonal and may increase as you grow. Do not worry about it as there is little you can do to increase it. Just be comfortable in your skin and take your mind off it. Secondly, there is nothing like falling breasts. Your body is uniquely created and no one can have the same shape of breast as you. What you think is falling for one girl may be perfect to another. The tissues holding our breasts do their works differently and so you should not be using another girl's breast to define how your breast should look like. Do not be shy, this is how your breast is. This may be the way that you are wired (forget about the fact that your younger ones are taller than you). You need to look at older members of your family (parents, uncles, grandparents etc) to see that there is someone that you took your stature from. Not everyone in the family is going to be tall or the same size as the others. Maybe you are the unique and special one that is made to be that way.
