Mentor: Someone who offers advice to a less experienced person
There is someone out there that can help you achieve your goal. This person can be your mentor.
This mentor can be someone older or closer to your age that you can go to for advice.
When looking for a mentor you need to remember some do’s and don’ts
DO…
Decide on the kind of mentor you need
Your mentor must be trustworthy.
Someone who has achieved the kind of success you want. This way, their advice will come from a place of experience.
Search Around you
Your mentor can be someone you already know or admire from afar.
It can be a family friend, a teacher or even a business woman in your community.
Make a move
If your potential mentor is someone you don’t already know, then write to them or get their phone number, call and introduce yourself.
Tell them why they would be the best mentor for you.
If you write and don’t hear back immediately don’t lose hope. Follow up.
Your research
Ask about mentorship programs at your local community centre, school, religious centre etc.
If you can’t find one, ask an adult in one of these places to guide you.
Make the most of every second
Time spent with your mentor should be fruitful. Fix meetings at a time when they can give you their undivided attention. Meet with them regularly
Ask questions. Share ideas with them.
DON’T…
Be Unteachable
Be ready to accept suggestions and criticism. Be open to learning. Never act like you know it all
Take advantage
If your mentor is able to help you they will help. Don’t try to take advantage by pushing them to go out of their way for you. And never use them as a reference without first asking their permission.
Accept abuse
Your mentor should never make you feel bad.
They shouldn’t ask you to do anything you don’t want to do. You should feel safe in their presence.
Never feel too big or small to seek for assistance from someone trusted who can help.

So for you to mentor others, you have to be much older and experienced both in age and in a certain field of expertise. This way, you give proper guidance to your mentees. We hope this helps
