Dear Big Sister,
I don’t even know where to start. Okay, there’s this guy I like called Jude. He’s so nice. I can tell him anything. He’s the coolest person ever. Once he took me out for ice cream. You should have seen the way other girls were looking at us ehn! I was very proud to be with him.
Today he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was about to scream “Yes!” then I panicked. He’s 24 and I’m only 16!!! I don’t want his friends to call me a baby. And I’m afraid of what other people will say. Some of them will think I just want his money.
Since he’s much older, I’m scared he’ll want to do things I can’t do. And I don’t want to lose him because of that.
I really, really like him! He’s not childish like guys my age. He’s sooo chill. I don’t know what to do, Big Sister. Help!

Awww! It’s okay, girl. I can see why you like Jude. But as he’s much older, things will be a little tricky. Your lives are different, so it’s best to be sure you guys have a lot in common. For instance, if you enjoy the same kind of music, you’ll have something to talk about.
Sometimes older guys want to date young girls just to control them. So look out for the signs. Does he keep telling you what to do? Accept you the way you are? Respect your opinions? Keep this in mind. That way, you won’t end up with someone who treats you like a baby. Because if he does, his friends will too.
Also, Jude may be ready for a serious relationship. He may want to take things to the next level. You shouldn’t be pressured into doing stuff that makes you uncomfortable.
Then ask yourself: Do I really like him for who he is, or just because he’s older? It helps to be sure. So you’ll be with him for the right reasons.
Remember to check if he only dates much younger girls. If he does, it’s not a good situation for you or anyone else.

Ummm i have a similar issue , the guy is 26 and thats 11yrs older than me . Hey Springster! Thanks for the comment. You need to be really careful about this relationship because 11 years is a HUGE age gap for someone your age. If he sees the things you ask are teenage stuff is because you are not on the same age grade. He is an adult and he is most likely taking advantage of you. Your friends have every right to call him uncle because he is old enough to be an uncle. A promise of marriage is not enough for you to hold on to. Are you ready for marriage? Can you get married right now? You both are in different generations and so you both will definitely think and act differently. In your comment, you said he gives you everything you ask for so this means that you are with him for what you want and so he is also in it for what he is getting from you. This is already a wrong reason to go into a relationship. We do not support such and so we advise you to think about this properly and also know what exactly it is you want from a relationship (apart from material needs because your relationship should not be a form of you getting material needs). There is a high chance that one person will look down on the ideology of the other person. Hey Sandra1! Thanks for the comment. First of all, dating 2 people and using one as a backup plan is just very unnecessary and also wicked. If you are afraid of someone messing up, then you should not bother dating them. Dating more than one person is not right in any way and should never be an option. Also, talk to a trusted adult about it. Secondly, love is not jealous or aggressive. Your boyfriend is just being insecure and that is not good.
