At the beginning of the year I vowed to start saving. Only that it can be pretty tough. There’s so much to do, to see, to buy. With all these distractions out there, saving hasn’t really worked out for me.


But I’m not giving up like that. In fact, I recently had a chat with my aunty. She’s very good at saving and planning so I asked her what to do. She told me anyone can learn how to save money—as long as they’re willing to try. Then she gave me three simple tips to help me save better. Now I’m ready to give it another go.

First of all, I’d like to share everything I’ve learned with you. That’s what friends are for, right? Here’s my brand new savings plan:


Easy Does It
I’ll start by setting a target. Not a big one, but a small one that’ll be easier to achieve. This means I’m going to save for little things like a pair of earrings, my favourite snack and my transport fare. My aunty said when I accomplish this goal, it’ll motivate me to aim for something big. E.g. lovely fabric. I can do anything once I set my mind to it—and so can you.

Track Your Progress
At the end of the week, I’ll calculate how much I’ve saved. This’ll help me spot mistakes early, then fix them. It’ll also encourage me to keep going. Truth is, it’s not just about saving. It’s about saving wisely and hitting my target. Soon I’ll get so used to saving that it won’t be a big deal anymore.

Enjoyment at the End
I’ll have to deny myself a thing or two to get to my goal. For instance, I’ll have to stop buying biscuits every day and save the money instead. Yes, it’ll be frustrating, but I know it’ll pay off in the end. That’s why once I hit my goal I am planning to celebrate by buying myself a pack of my favourite biscuit. Plus my aunty will be super proud of me too.
