Dear Mummy,
I watch my friends with their mothers. They are not like you and me. They say every mother loves her child. Is it love when you beat me and call me names?
I have a scar from when you hit me with a wooden spoon because I added too much salt to the rice. It seems like you hit me all the time.
You call me slow, stupid, useless. You always tell me I will end up a failure with the way I am going.
My friends are not scared of their mothers. Not the way I am scared of you.
They talk freely with mothers. I can’t because you always say I ask childish questions.
You say you treat me this way because you don’t want me to go down a bad path. You say you only discipline me because you love me.
Sister said what you are doing is called verbal and physical abuse. She said no one should treat a child this way. She said you should treat the people you love with kindness.
Mummy is she correct? Or does she not love me as much as you do?
Mummy is this love? When I have my own children, is this how I should treat them? I don’t think so. I will correct my children gently. I will always speak to them kindly.

Tell her when she is in a good mood and do not tell her when you are angry also. Telling her will make a difference because she will know how she treats you and how it is affecting you. It means you are willing to make a move. Most children especially the girls are ill treated by their parents. Mostly because they are not happy with the gender of the child. They feel girls are worthless, liability and a waste of resources. But is that really true? Any child be it a boy or girl was created for a definite purpose. To make the child reach these heights, she has to be guided and shown love by the parents and guardians. We must stop girl child abuse! Be it physical, sexual, verbal or emotional. Enough is enough!!!

Oh Jummy! We are so sorry about what you are going through with your mum. We understand how sad and painful it can be. The truth is that your mum loves you but you both just do not how to build your relationship with each other. Wipe your tears girl. What you should do is to talk to your mum about this and let her know how you feel. If you cannot tell her to her face, you can write a letter or send a text to her. You will be surprised that she doesn't know how bad this is for you. You can also talk to a trusted adult to help you talk to your mum. Trust me, everything will be fine eventually but you need to let her know about it. Once again, we are so sorry about this and we hope this helps

Sincerely.. I went through this same issue. My mum called me names. beat me up... hit my head on the wall... kicked me to the floor. She made me feel very inferior. When i stammer instead of helping me she mocked me and i usually cried bitterly. That's the reason i cant talk to my mum.. I dont tell her things.. i keep it to myself or share my problems with my sister or friends outside. Some Parents have failed in training.. I will treat my children with love cos i know how bad i felt. Thanks.

I can actually relate to this. It's one of the reasons why I find it difficult to talk to her. I prefer confiding in my best friend even when she doesn't know what to do about whatever issue I have. At least I know she has my back. My mom has hit me so many times all in the name of correction. It's normal for parents to try to correct us but not to the extent where we become distant. I still haven't had the period talk with her. She obviously didn't know she had to tell me about periods. Thank goodness I was 14

Im going through hell right now because of my aunt, i totally keep distance from her because of the way she treats me all in the name of correction. She call me names,beats me and says i can never do anything right. I miss my loving grandma soo much, even if she shouts at me she can never lay a finger on me, she always make me laugh and we always have good times Together. Whenever my aunts shout at me i always remember the things me and my mom shares in common (may her soul rest in peace). Because of her I've turned from "the best student in class" to "the dumpest student". I regret ever coming to stay with her.

She is afraid, maybe, if she treats you softly she may end up doting on you and as a result you become spoiled. look at yourself. do you really behave the way your mum says you behave?
